Almost a billion people don’t have access to clean, safe drinking water. That’s one in eight of us.
When you have a house with a kitchen sink and a bathroom sink and a shower and a sprinkler system, it’s real hard to imagine what every day life would be like without safe drinking water. But the fact remains that unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation cause 80% of diseases and kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. Over 42,000 people die every week from unsafe water and unhygienic living conditions. And 90% of those people who die are children. It’s a staggering problem but it’s not hopeless thanks to charity: water and other organizations that are dedicated to helping people bring safe water to their communities.
“charity: water is a non-profit organization bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. 100% of public donations directly fund water projects.”
